We started out on Monday, May 1st in the
rain. We stayed in the rain until Leeds,
Alabama where we met my cousins (Rhonda Wilson and Randy Eastis, Prissy's (Keri Lee) husband for
breakfast. It was a nice way to start
our trip and we enjoyed being sent on our way by family. Not those clapping because we were leaving!! We traveled to Tuscaloosa before stopping
briefly for the rest room and while at the rest stop I discovered the bedroom
window had shattered and most of it was missing. Always something with an RV but it sure
pisses me off when we start out and can’t even get through Alabama without
something happing.
The bottom on the window is what broke and
this is the repair job. We went to Home
Depot and got Plexiglas and a cutter that was suppose to cut it. We had two straight cut and two curved cuts on
the bottom. Well the cutter was for 5 to
6 mill sheets and they sold me 7 mill sheet.
Leave it to Home Depot to screw us again. We tried to cut the Plexiglas with it and it
just broke it. But we finally got a
piece of it to fit the window and we taped it with black tape so you cann;t
tell until you get right up to it. Not
sure when we will get it replaced because it had to be ordered from the
manufactory and an RV dealer will have to do that. Ordering it will take two week and we are not
staying in most places but 5 to 10 days.
We traveled to Tyler on Wednesday and had rain during the
trip and it held up ok. Hope it can make
it the whole trip like that and I
will not be half as
mad as I am now.
On Tuesday after fixing the window in the morning, we
visited the Vicksburg National Cemetery and took a tour of the battle area
which was nice. The complete tour was
paved which surprised me and there were monuments all over the place. Most of them were placed there either by the
families or the state where they were from.
A lot were place by the North because they had more money and could
afford to put them there but in the 1900 the South also started placing a lot
of the monuments there as well.
For those who do not know the battle of Vicksburg was a major battle and General Grant was desperate to overtake the city to cut the supplies to the Confederates. The Mississippi River was a major avenue for the Confederates to get what they needed to supply their Army.

This is the area
where the Union Army had to fight the Confederates and they battle was
difficult for them because of the terrain they had to fight on.
Vicksburg was to the rear of these photo and was protected
with cliffs and hilly areas where the Union Army must fight hard to get up to
where the Confederate soldiers were entrenched.
These are some of the best
monuments in the park and they were place here to remember the Union Soldiers.
After visiting the National Park, we went into Vicksburg and
tried to tour one of the first bottling companies Coke had. Supposedly, it was the very first one ion the
world. However, they were closing when
we arrived and we could not go inside but the lady let us take a few photos in
the lobby area before leaving. We went
to the Casino on the river and had a nice dinner and played some games. No we are not rich yet!!!
This blog is not doing the right things so the photos are in one group sorry for the confusion but I cannot do anything about it now. The last few photos are from the Casino where the bridge crossed the Mississippi to Louisiana.
