More Redwoods, Coastal Highway and Drive Thru Tree

Yesterday we traveled down the coast from Crescent City, making stops along the way at different Vista Overlooks.  The clouds were low again yesterday and some areas were covered and you could not see anything.  We will have to go back to those again on a clear day.  We visited one Yurok Reservation Visitor Center and found they settled this area and made a living from fishing and hunting.  They made their own boats and canoes from the redwood trees.

We saw one old bridge which was washed away in the 1960's after a flood and trees knocked it down.  It was the Douglas Memorial Bridge and a little part of it is still standing and you can walk out a little ways and take pictures of the Klamath River.  We also found a place to drive the car through a redwood tree but it was on private property and you had to pay five dollars to go through it.  I guess it was worth it since not many people get to drive through a redwood tree.  I could have used the money to buy a good cigar, well a half decent cigar.  This is Ashley's rental car (Red Ford) from the airport which I ended up driving all the time she was here.  What is up with that!!!  Cindy said it was so she could see the scenic views better.  Well heck I am old, I need kids to drive me around!!  Most of the views from the coast are below Crescent City, but they were beautiful.  The redwoods are from Prairie Creek Redwood State Park.  Some of the photos from the coast show how much fog was covering the area.

If you are reading this today July 7, 2017 I am behind on the blog and will try to catch up in the next day .

Bear on the old bridge.  When they build a new bridge on Hwy 101 they put two on each side of that.

This is an Elk in Elk Meadows inside the park.
