Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Week

We caught the last of speed week at the Bonneville Salt Flats on August 17.  In case you do not know the Bonneville Salt Flat is where most of the speed records are recorded and set.  It is where the Worlds Fastest Indian movie was filmed staring Anthony Hopkins. It is about the Austrian who came to the flats to set the record for the Indian motorcycle and he did.  His name was Buster something.

This is the place all the speed records were set with the jet engines built in cars were run and records made.  I have seen this place on the news and other publications all my life and I am glad that I was able to come during Speed Week which is the only time the cars and motorcycles run for the records.

We saw one car that did 240 miles per hour and broke a previous record and we also saw one car that was trying to break a record but the car blew a tire and it did several donuts before it flipped several times.  The driver (Boxcar, I do not know that is just what they called him!) was ok and was out walking around before rescue got to him.  We saw a lot of neat cars and old Roadsters and some jet cars were still there but others had left because we were at the end of their week.  But this is a bucket list item that can now be checked off.  Have T-shirts to to prove we were here and it was fun and exciting.
