Zion National Park and Canyon

On Tuesday, August 22, 2017 we went to Zion National Park.  It is a beautiful park but not as pretty and interesting as Bryce Canyon, to me.  There is a long tunnel on the road through the canyon and we had to pay extra to go through the tunnel because the truck is so big they have to stop traffic the other way to let us go through.  (The first tunnel you see in the photos is not the one, it is small and did not need anyone to direct traffic).  So, we got to the tunnel after paying and the Ranger stops the traffic and we are able to use both lanes to get through.  We also found out why they have to stop traffic for big trucks and RVs.  The tunnel has some very sharp curves in it that would make it dangerous and of course collisions could occur. We were able to go slow and take some pictures in some of the openings that were cut in the tunnel.  Cindy took those with her cell phone.  We came in the east gate and was able to ride to the visitors center where we had to get on a shuttle to ride to the north canyon park.  There were about nine different stops up the canyon and each had a trail that you could hike if you wanted.  We saw some very interesting rock formations and canyon walls.

On stop number 9 there was a river running through the canyon and Cindy  took off her shoes and waded in the river with the rest of the tourist.

As we were leaving the Zion National Park, on the road that leads out we saw a herd of sheep and some pretty good Rams in the bunch.  That was interesting to see them coming up out of the valley floor and eating the bushes as they were gathering to cross the highway.

Also on the way out Bobby and Cindy wanted to climb some rocks that were near the road and we got out and went to the top of the rocks and the view was great.  You will see some of the photos of them on top of the rocks in the photos below.  Also you will see the checker board rocks below.  They are called this because of the resemblance of the boards for checker and chess.  Very interesting to think of how these things were made from the wind, ice and water and God.
