Last Days in Moab and Needles View Point.

On August 31, 2017 we visited another park of the Canyonlands which was the Needles Vista Point.  There are three parts of Canyonland National Park.  One is Island in the Sky which is in the other blogs and the Maze which we did not get a chance to see because of the distance to travel to it and then there is the Needles.  The views from here are spectacular and breathtaking.  We had to travel about 65 miles to get here but it was worth it.  Some of the roads were nothing but loose gravel. The other road which cuts off 163 highway is 22 miles long but it was paved and narrow.  We had a picnic lunch and was going to use the parks picnic tables but it was another 18 miles to get to one section and so we decided to eat in the truck again.  It was not that bad though.

After the Needles we went to the Red Cliff Lodge to see the Movie Museum.  There are a ton of movies that were made in Moab.  Some you may recognize are Thelma and Louise, Mission Impossible 11, and the western City Slickers 2.  Also there were plenty of John Wayne movies made here as well.  The ranch where all the movies were made was called Red Rock Ranch and after they got the movie industry to come to Moab they built the lodge and restaurants.  A lot of the western movies that show the Rio Grande was actually the Colorado River where the cattle crossed.  There is a photo of that as well.

This is Wilson's Arch located on Hwy 191 just before you get to Needles View Point
